Do you know that one of every three bites of our food is a result of pollination cased by honey bees. Existence of Honey bees is crucial for human existence. If honey bees go extinct there would No food grains and No flowers. Honey bees are pollinators for the agriculture industry and pollinate 80% of our plants , flowers and crops.
‘Honey Bees’ represent a minute fraction of the 20,000 known species of bees. There are seven species of honey bees recognized with 44 subspecies. Honey bees originated in South and South East Asia. It seems that Philippines is the native place for the honey bees as the origin of the all the extent species can be traced back to this region other than the species Apis mellifera.
In 2007 there was an alarming collapse and die off rate of honey bees with where 30-70% of hives died. This happened in European colonies of honey bees in North America. Beekeepers located in Western countries have observed a slow decline of stocks for many years now. Such a rapid decline was never seen in history and is called the “colony collapse disorder” (CCD). This decline seemed to be due to a combination of various factors contributing together. Reasons depicted are changes in agricultural practices, weather shift and impaired protein production.
This crisis has drawn huge attention from scientists, politicians and the general public all over the world. As per studies there has been a drop in the domestic bee colonies in USA and a decline in the diversity of the wild bees available in Europe. There is also data with evidence indicating decrease in pollinators due to fragmentation in habitat and agricultural intensification.
As a result – it implies that agricultural production is to suffer if there is an intense shortage of pollination. HPLC is at work for save Pollinators Habitat, Butterflies, and Bees Habitat in USA. Donate now to save our nature
